Gopher State Railway Museum

About 35 GSRM members, their families and friends gathered for the Annual Picnic Sunday 21Jul at GSRM.

Earlier in the morning, a thunderstorm rolled through and it looked like the day may be a washout, but instead, by 11:30am, the sky cleared and it was a perfect day for a picnic.  The high was in the low 80s and the humidity subsided.

Everyone enjoyed a pot luck lunch along with all the hot dogs and hamburgers they could eat.  The highlight of the day was the much awaited speeder rides.  Everyone was promised speeder rides last year, but there wasn't enough track built to run one on.  This year there's about a 1/3 of a mile, enough for a 5 minute ride out and back.  Josh made a number of capacity trips with his Northern Pacific Fairmont motor car.  How far will it go next year?  Maybe a ride in NSP 4 will be a possibility?

Folk music was provided throughout the afternoon by family freinds of one of the members.

The new flag and flag also debuted, courtesy of a donation from the Elko-New Market Lyon's Club.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and there wasn't too much sunburn reported by any of the guests, eveyone is just glad that summer finally arrived in Minnesota.

With talk of pro football training camp and back-to-school ads filling the airwaves - summer won't last long here.  We'll take what we can get!
